Whether painting outside or in the studio , painting is a celebration of the beauty that surrounds us. I paint pictures of the things that touch me in some way. The scenes that move me are objects in which I have some connection. It might be an arrangement of colors, that like a chord played on a piano and are pleasing to the ear, have a similar effect visually, pleasing the eye.
I started this journey painting in watercolor. After ten years I decided I needed to expand into oil. There are so many subjects that seem to be better suited to oil. When I began painting I did almost everything en plein air. I find myself drawn to this type of approach more often lately. There is an integrity to a painting that is the result of direct observation that is seldom matched in the studio
