Erika is a journalist, publisher, and passionate advocate for the arts and local culture. Living in Manchester, she has strong ties to Cape Ann through her marriage into a family with deep roots in the region dating back to 1904. As a Cape Ann Plein Air board member, Erika believes the event is a key economic and cultural driver, enhancing local tourism and elevating the region’s reputation as the “birthplace of American plein air painting.”

Erika connects with the creative process through her work in writing, design, and print production. She finds inspiration in Cape Ann’s immense artistic talent, particularly abstract works and intimate depictions of daily life. Erika believes Cape Ann Plein Air benefits both artists and the community, fostering a deeper appreciation for the region’s artistic legacy and offering a platform for artists to gain exposure. Her favorite views to paint include the Ipswich marshes and the charm of Essex. One thing that surprises first-time attendees is the speed and skill with which artists create their work.
