Liz O’Connor

Board of Directors

Liz O'Connor has called Gloucester home since 1990, drawn to the coastal beauty of Cape Ann after growing up in the Berkshires as the youngest of seven children. A practicing attorney with a general law office in downtown Gloucester, Liz is married to Kevin Burke and enjoys a full family life with three grown stepdaughters, two grandchildren, and their pug, Hazel. As a new member of the Cape Ann Plein Air board, Liz is eager to gain an insider's perspective on the renowned event, having enjoyed attending the gala for many years.

While not an artist herself, Liz deeply appreciates the artistic spirit and particularly enjoys the sharp wit often found among artists. She recognizes the vital role that events like Cape Ann Plein Air play in the community, believing they offer invaluable opportunities for artists to showcase their creations and for the local community to engage directly with the artistic process. Liz values the dynamic interaction and conversation fostered by plein air events, contrasting it with the more detached experience of museums and galleries.

Liz appreciates the diverse beauty of Cape Ann and finds inspiration in abstract work, as well as architectural and street scenes. As she embarks on her journey with the Cape Ann Plein Air board, Liz anticipates that first-time attendees will be pleasantly surprised by the sheer number and variety of activities offered throughout the weeklong plein air event, realizing it extends far beyond just the central painting competition.
