Mark Bappe

Board of Directors

Mark Bappe of Essex brings both creative expertise and a deep appreciation for the arts to his role on the Cape Ann Plein Air Board of Directors. A Creative Director at a Boston advertising agency, Mark’s professional background in art direction and design complements his passion for painting, which he pursues through oil-based plein air work.

Having moved to Cape Ann when his children were young, Mark developed a strong connection to the region’s landscapes. Living alongside the Essex marshes, he draws daily inspiration from the shifting colors and rhythms of the natural environment. He is especially drawn to painting local scenes such as the marshes, Gloucester Harbor, and the area’s working farms.

Mark is continually inspired by the Cape Ann Plein Air community, valuing the collaboration, creativity, and storytelling that artists bring to their work. He finds particular joy in events like the Quick Draw, where artists of all levels engage directly with the public.

For Mark, Cape Ann Plein Air plays a vital role in connecting artists and community—reminding us that art is both deeply personal and universally shared.
